Every year, Make Every Woman Count (MEWC) produces a report, which summarises the progress made by African countries regarding women's rights and gender equality on the continent during each year of the African Women's Decade 2010-2020.

The purpose of the report is to provide an overview of women's rights situation in Africa. It is a way of keeping track of the progress made on the continent and will thus function as a resource for developments throughout the decade. It is also an important tool when advocating for change, as developments regarding progress on gender issues will be made available.

In past years, the African Women’s Decade Report tracked progress on different issues affecting women. However, this year, we are moved to focus solely on one area: “Governance and Legal Protection: Women’s Participation in Political and Electoral Processes”This year’s African Women’s Decade report will look at the number of women in political positions, prove a standing of women in parliament and assemblies in all 55 African countries. The report will also analyse the standing in comparison with previous years and conduct research on gender quotas in these countries, addressing any changes that have occurred in the previous years.

For its 2017, Make Every Woman Count is seeking interns/volunteers to work on its flagship report to assist with research, data collection on women’s political participation in Africa.

The Interns/volunteers will assist with the preparation and publication of the African Women’s Decade report 2017, track and report on progress African countries are making in the area of women’s rights and gender equality.

This is a largely desk related research and write up, utilising credible sources including UN information as well as national reports, policies, laws. This is a very rewarding experience to be involved in research, writing and analysis, monitoring women's rights in Africa during the African Women's Decade.
