Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) plans to carry out business trainings on women in cross border trade in order to enable them grasp and fully utilise the East African Common market business opportunities.

The Executive Director of TWCC Ms Flora Rimoy made the revelation in Dar es Salaam yesterday during a training on business opportunities on women engaging on exportation of goods in the country.

Ms Rimoy said that training to be held in Namanga in Arusha Region, Sirari (Mara Region) and Mwanza next month is part of the programmes on the special projects of empowering business-women in cross border trade.

United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) is funding the project. She said the training in Namanga would be held on 15 to 17 next month (June) while in Sirari and Mwanza the trainings would be on 16 and 17 June.

"The main aim of the trainings is to enable the women in cross border trade be able to use and fully utilise the business opportunities in the EAC Market," she said adding that trainings would involve various stakeholders including financers, government business officers, Tanzania Revenue Authorities and Migrations. According to Ms Rimoy, the forum would discuss on various issues including access to information, market, financial opportunities among others.

"In Namanga... the training would mainly focus on enlightening women on supply chain, packaging and branding and in Mwanza and Sirari, the trainings would be on business formalisation and funding," she said.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of TWCC Ms Jackline Maleko expressed the need for the business-women in the country to develop habits carrying out research before engaging on business for the better future.

Speaking to reporters at the sideline of the training held in the city yesterday, Ms Maleko said that most of the women's businesses fail to excel due to lack of information on the market and other factors.

She said the country had a plenty of businesses opportunities that are not yet fully utilised noting that women entrepreneurs especially those engaged on exportation of goods should make use of the opportunities.
